Fuel up for fun!
I am torn... on the one hand, I think it's great that the Governor is trying to do something to promote NH tourism in the face of rising gas prices. On the other hand Fuel Up for Fun seems like the wrong way to do it.
The cost of gasoline is at an all time high. New Hampshire families and visitors to our state are spending more of their hard-earned money filling their gas tanks. While I can't guarantee that prices will go down soon, there are ways I can ease the financial burdens on our residents and tourists. Just save your original receipts from any New Hampshire gas retailer and enter to win one of our weekly prizes. We will be offering exciting prizes from getaways to New Hampshire's finest resorts to free gas. Something new every week!
Gas sales. We're promoting gas sales? Is this really going to make or break someone's decision to visit NH this summer? Only if we offer double-points for vehicles that get single-digit gas mileage. Imagine the scene... a family around their kitchen table planning their summer getaway:
Dad: Well, with these rising gas prices, it looks like our trip to the Lakes Region is out!
Son: Awwwww! But you promised I could ride my motor bike without a helmet this summer!
Mom: Hold on Timmy, maybe you still can! Ward, haven't you heard about the New Hampshire state Governor's new Fuel Up For Fun contest!? You can win exciting prizes every week!
Dad: Wow! Free gas! Now we can afford a stop at the NH state liquor store and get some fireworks too! Everyone in the car -- and we're not fillin' up 'till we hit the border!
