Sure would be nice if they could get this sorted out so I could get some of that wine from Virginia: Supreme Court to hear case on Internet wine:
The US Supreme Court has agreed to hear arguments in a thorny dispute about whether wine can be sold directly to customers between US states, including over the Internet.
The constitution's "commerce clause" gives the federal government the authority to regulate commerce across state lines, and prohibits states from erecting barriers to interstate trade.
At the same time, the 21st Amendment to the constitution, which repealed Prohibition in 1933, gave states authority over the regulation of alcohol.
Of course, as you may remember, the Spirits Wholesalers of America have already determined that People don't want a looser system of distribution of alcohol ... those pushing for direct shipping are a small group of wealthy people looking for rare wines. If that's the case, why don't the wealthy people just take the Supreme Court duck hunting or something so we can get this resolved more quickly?
