As I was agonizing over which book to read next from my overflowing "to be read" shelves, I started digging in the back rows (the shelves are stacked two deep) and pulling out books I'd forgotten about... and are unfortunately now a little irrelevant.
Speeding the Net (1998) The inside story of Netscape and how it challenged Microsoft - This book sports a dust jacket with Wired-reminiscent day-glo orange and yellow. While there may be something interesting in here, it just doesn't seem worth reading given that Time Warner swallowed AOL which swallowed Netscape.
Customers.com (1998) How to create a profitable business strategy for the internet and beyond - This was widely praised when it came out and probably rightly so. I started it back then and got bored with it because nothing in it seemed that revolutionary.
The Gorilla Game (1998) An investor's guide to picking winners in high technology - Enough said.
Burn Rate (1998) How I survived the gold rush years on the internet - This is a funny title, given that in 98 I'm not sure the gold rush was really over yet. I guess it's a story about the crazy times of internet startups. I already saw Startup.com.
StrikingItRich.com (1999) Profiles of 23 incredibly successful websites you've probably never heard of - I read a good part of this back when I bought it in 99. Some of it was interesting, like how well Long Islands Hot Tubs was doing on the web. Actually... it might be fun to go through the book and see who's still in business.
