We are now living in hot and sunny Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We've been here a little over a week and it was a busy one. We were doing things at our new home during the day and then traveling around 30 minutes to sleep at my in-law's condo because we didn't have any furniture in our home yet.
We got a new washer on Thursday (paid for by my wife's awesome parents), our stuff from NH on Friday, and then a new dryer on Saturday. We've pretty much unpacked and now the biggest job will be going to the recycling station to get rid of all the cardboard boxes and packing materials.
As for the name change...we have a wonderful baby boy that just turned one last week. We think he's wonderful but one of the cats and the dog were not impressed. Fizban now lives with Middle Daughter and is very happy to have uncontested lap space and no kids or a dog to ruffle her carefully groomed fur.
The dog ended up being adopted by a family (with older kids) that the in-laws found near them in NY. She would have been perfectly happy if she could have had my total attention but didn't like either of the boys very much. When she growled and showed her teeth because the baby was between her and me it was time for her to go. The in-laws say that she is very happy where she is at and I'm glad for it. We checked with shelters in our area and she said that with her history with kids the kindest thing to do would be to put her asleep. I'm glad we were able to avoid that because she is a good dog with adults.
A few years ago PW and I bought some new furniture. We went with what was considered 'apartment sized' furniture because we didn't want things that were difficult to move or took up too much space. The furniture is the perfect size for our new home and it looks awesome.
We're thinking of getting some ceiling fans installed and then we'll think about whether we want to paint or not. The first thing we bought was a table and four chairs for our screened in porch. It is so nice to sit outside and not be attacked by black flies or mosquitoes. Actually, as far as bugs are concerned, we haven't had any problems with them at all. We go for walks in the evening and nothing bothers us or the baby in his stroller at all.
We are loving our new home and I can tell you right now that they would have to drag me kicking and screaming back to NH.
