I've always wanted a metal detector and I finally bought one. We went to the beach one night and I found a nickel, a silver toe ring, lots of foil, a rusty nail, and a tent stake. On my front lawn I got a strong signal and found an old beer can around 5 inches into the ground. I decided I'm not going to detect any more in my yard because it is a pain to dig and fill in the holes.
This weather has been awesome. I'm sure it hasn't been good for the electricity bill but at least it finally feels like summer!
PW finished Deathly Hallows last night and now we can all finally talk about it together. There are parts of the book that make me laugh, ones that choke me up to talk about, but all of it was incredible and tied up most of the loose ends from other books.

I LOVE my iPhone! One of the things I don't like about iPods is that you have to choose and stick with a platform (Mac or PC) that you will use to update that device. I was able to connect my iPhone to my iMac to download video and songs and to my PC to sync with my contacts and calendar! How cool is that?
PW, Middle Daughter, and I all stood in line at our local Barnes and Noble in order to buy the latest Harry Potter novel, The Deathly Hallows. We got our books shortly after midnight and started to read once we got home. I went to bed at 3am and was up at 8am to resume reading. I finished around 2:30pm and will probably start reading it again tonight. MD finished her book as well and now we're waiting for PW to finish hers. She's had to take breaks from reading to take care of our son and stuff like that so it has slowed her down.
This was my favorite, by far, of the HP books. I won't give any spoilers here because I don't want to wreck it for anyone. I laughed, cried, and found it impossible to put down and that makes it a pretty darn good book.
In other news...These are pictures from the same area I planted wildflower seeds last year. My whole yard is a jungle in that area but the bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife are loving it. I did notice a slew of Japanese beetles and I'm trying to decide if I have to do anything with them.
I have black raspberry bushes all over my yard. The best one is located in the side yard that I had cleared over a year ago. I guess not having trees looming over everything is to the raspberry bushes' liking!
I pick a bowl like this every couple of days. This is the best one so far with the berries being more plentiful and bigger than a week ago.
The best part is that I didn't plant these bushes, I don't water or fertilize them at all, I just pick the berries and enjoy eating them.
By the way, I won $115 playing poker last night.
We had an awesome honeymoon. The hardest part was coming back to 'real life' and the routine of work, kids, animals, and schedules. A think a month would have been perfect but we had to make do with our five days. :)
In other news...My dog loves lights. She chases the reflection from my watch, goes crazy for a flashlight, but a laser led...that droves her right over the edge! I walk in the door and she starts to prance like a puppy as she waits for me to shine the light.
PW and I just returned from a honeymoon trip to Quebec City. We stayed outside the wall in the old city in a really nice hotel. Everything was in walking distance and we also drove to places like the Bee Museum, Montmorency Chute, and the Il d'Orleans where I enjoyed a nice pint of fresh strawberries as we drove around the scenic island.
We had dinner at a place we had checked out several times while walking to and from our hotel, Resto L'Echaude. We were attracted to the unique menu and ate there our last night in Quebec.
We were enjoying our appetizers when I heard a choking sound coming from the table behind us. I looked around and saw a man getting to his feet and then his wife, unsuccessfully, trying to perform the Heimlich maneuver on him. I got to my feet and when the man saw me stand he motioned his wife out of the way as he gasped for air.
A performed the maneuver twice and finally he gacked a half-chewed piece of steak up on the restaurant floor. They said thank you and I returned shakily to my seat. Our waiter walked by and gave me the thumbs up sign and I asked him for another drink. PW was almost in tears because of the whole thing and we resumed our dinner.
It took forever for my drink to come and when it did the waiter smiled as he told me that the man behind me said the drink was on him for what I did.
A drink...for saving his life.
PW had seen him talking to the waiter and figured dinner was going to be on them but she was sadly mistaken. Not only did the man think his life was only worth a drink, but the restaurant staff acted like nothing had happened at all.
It ended up being a surreal experience for sure.
I wonder if they would have bought PW a drink too if I had waited until he was purple before popping out that hunk of steak...
