Bring on the ice cream or I'll have some resveratrol with my dinner.

I just read and interesting article that I found on the 'net. It seems that a compound in red wine is responsible for the same health benefits that you get by reducing the amount of calories that you ingest each day.

This entry in Good Friend's blog should be amended to add red wine to the list of things you have to have. After all, what's listening to a Britney Spear's CD if you don't have a nice glass of Hot Medock to drink?

I think I should be happy or Half a compliment is better than none?

Oldest Daughter mentioned that her cheerleading coach (a recent college graduate and a cheerleader too) said that I was good looking, for a dad.

Great beer, new friends or A home brew party!

A Good Friend from High School had a home brew party. The beers were absolutely incredible. I'm not a dark beer lover but his porter was absolutely incredible. I also saw his sister for the first time in over 20 years so that was way cool too.

She's drunk or I love it when someone else isn't feeling any pain!

This has to by my favorite blogger. Knowing her in real life makes these posts about a hundred times interesting!

What's really funny is that I really wouldn't care if I saw someone in my yard and so it never happens to me.

Slacker Day or Sounds like a plan to me!

I wish I had known earlier than 1:30pm that today is Slacker Day. I could have used some serious slacker time what with all the recent moving activity.

Taking a rest or the world revolves around me.

I stopped at the NH liquor store on the north-bound side of I-95 in Hampton yesterday. I was going to ask if they had any empty wooden wine cases to use for my upcoming move. I never did ask anyone mostly because it was incredibly busy in the store. I did take time to walk around and look at the wines.

I noticed a guy on his cell phone when I arrived. He had a case of some Bordeaux wine and a shopping cart nearly full of bottles too. He had a copy of Wine Spectator and was obviously shopping based on their advice and the advice of the person on the other side of the phone.

This man was sitting on a display talking on the phone. His cart was in the middle of the aisle and the case that he had was perched on the edge of the cart. A woman who worked there came by and mentioned to him that he may want to watch the case and that he was sitting on a display. He kind of nodded but waved his hand at her like she just needed to move on. She came by a few minutes later and told him he needed to get up off of the display.

This guy looked really pissed but he got up. He was sitting on boxes of Champagne that retail for around $30 a bottle. The display consisted of individual bottles that were in their own box and he was sitting on them. He dented several of the boxes but apparently didn't think that was a problem.

People who do things like that just irritate the hell out of me. This man looked to be in his mid 40's, and in good health. What world does he live in that makes him think it is ok to sit on a display? His primary concern was his comfort and his phone call. The fact that someone may not want to buy the boxes that he squished probably never crossed his mind, or he just didn't care.

Getting Ready to Move or Get out the tools!

Sunday was a fairly busy day for me in terms of doing moving stuff. Beautiful wife has certainly done the lion's share of getting us ready to move. There is some stuff that she needs me to do or needs help with in general.

I removed the canopy that I made for our bed probably at least 5 years ago. It was screwed into the ceiling so I needed to take it down. I also pried out the staples that held the fabric to the wood for the decorative part of the design.

I removed the ceiling fan in the dining room and replaced it with a fixture from the store that cost a little over six dollars. We still had the original one from when we moved into the house but the wiring in it made me nervous so I bought something new. I also removed the ceiling fan from Son's room and replaced it with a four dollar bedroom fixture. Of course what took the longest was the trip to the store to buy the fixtures.

I spent a couple/few hours up in the attic going through boxes that managed to escape our notice the first couple of times up there. I have a truck load of stuff that needs to go to the transfer station even after getting rid of a bunch of stuff on Saturday!

20th Anniversary or Beating the Odds

Beautiful Wife and I are celeberating our 20th Wedding Anniversary. I've been married for half my life now and it has definitely been worth it. I have four wonderful children and a great life. My Beautiful Wife is the source of my happiness and I'd be lost without her.

Human shield or Did you wear your burka, lady?

I just read this story on Yahoo. What gets me is that this woman goes to Iraq to be a human shield because she thinks the war is unjust.

Did she ask any of the people over there what would happen if any of them protested against their government? Did this school teacher go on any field trips to the prisons or mass graves of those who dared speak against the leadership of the country?

I don't think we should fine her or put her in jail. I think we should revoke her citizenship and send her back over to Iraq with all the burkas she can fit in one carry-on suitcase.

We'll consider restoring her citizenship after a year of living over there if she writes a 5,000 word essay on why she'd be grateful to be a U.S. citizen again. A year without any hope of escape, no protection that is afforded to a citizen of another country, and wearing a burka in 110 degree heat should give her a unique perspective for that essay.

In my spare time or punch, punch, kick, punch.

I've started to do some extra karate workouts in anticipation of my next karate test in March. I've got to get back in shape and the best way to start is to practice my katas. This helps me review the old and prepare for the new. Also, it is a great cardio workout to go through all of them multiple times during a 1.5 hour workout. I'm doing these workouts in addition to my classes. I find this works better than taking extra lower belt classes because those are often filled doing stuff that I don't care to work on right now.

The katas I know are:
Seisan
Seuchin
Nahanchi
Wansu
Chinto
Kusanku
Sanchin
Tokumine No Kun
Bo Kumite

The katas I'm working on are:
Sunsu (the only kata created by the founder of the system I study)
Kusanku Sai (modified kata as above and done with sais)

I do all the katas, plus some extra sai basics, all the way through full power. Then I do them all again but slowly with emphasis on stances, punch placement, and general form. I do them again a little faster and then finish the workout by doing them all again at full power. This takes about 1.5 hours with stops for sips of water.

Visiting Orleans or We had a great time at the Cape

Good Friend's Mom and Step-father are absolutely awesome. We were the lucky recipients of a comfortable room, great food & drink, and awesome hospitality.

Good Friend showed us many interesting sites and made sure we had coffee and lunch at the best places. We had a great time at a wine tasting, visited a local wine store, and also visited Truro winery in the town of that name.

We finished our last day there riding around the cove while lobster pots were pulled. There weren't many lobsters but it was fun driving around anyway.

We left wishing we had more time to spend there and hoping to go back again soon.

Some Fun at the Cape or Let's go buy a vibrator

Beautiful Wife and I are enjoying some time with Good Friends at their parent's house on the Cape. We don't get this way often and never together so we enjoyed visiting P-Town. Beautiful Wife wanted to check out the adult toy shops but we didn't buy anything this time. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day! ;-)
