We recently went on a family vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC. PW's parents have a condo down there so we stayed part of the time in an ocean-front hotel and then a week at their place since they left and went back to their home in NY.
We've talked about moving before to a warmer climate and while down there decided to look around at some houses. You can get much more house down there compared to NH and property taxes are much lower too.
We made an offer on a beautiful townhouse and our home up here is on the market. We're hoping to sell sooner rather than later. We'll either move as soon as we sell or by the end of the summer, whichever comes first.
Of course there is much drama surrounding this decision, even from the in-laws that live down there part of the year and will most benefit from seeing their grandchildren.
Youngest Daughter is still in placement up here for her mental illness and the only way to keep her where she's at is to arrange a guardian for her. We've asked a former in-law that mentioned several times that she'd do it before but now we're waiting to hear back now that we've actually asked. LOL
The other complaints?
- We won't see the kids
- All the family is up here
- I'm going to intern Summer 2010 in Boston
- The winters aren't always that warm and they get snow once every five years
- The humidity is awful
On the plus side, it is a hooked up development that has multiple swimming pools, beach club access, taxes that are only about $125/month, ocean water temperatures of 83 in the summer, lots of sun, and lots of warm weather. Middle Daughter's fiance's parents live in FL so they are already planning a stop 'on the way' when they go down to visit.
I'm very excited and can't wait to live where it is warm.

It kind of seems like the cons outweigh the pros, at least according to your list, but that's just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you do...
