PW, Middle Daughter, and I all stood in line at our local Barnes and Noble in order to buy the latest Harry Potter novel, The Deathly Hallows. We got our books shortly after midnight and started to read once we got home. I went to bed at 3am and was up at 8am to resume reading. I finished around 2:30pm and will probably start reading it again tonight. MD finished her book as well and now we're waiting for PW to finish hers. She's had to take breaks from reading to take care of our son and stuff like that so it has slowed her down.
This was my favorite, by far, of the HP books. I won't give any spoilers here because I don't want to wreck it for anyone. I laughed, cried, and found it impossible to put down and that makes it a pretty darn good book.
In other news...These are pictures from the same area I planted wildflower seeds last year. My whole yard is a jungle in that area but the bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife are loving it. I did notice a slew of Japanese beetles and I'm trying to decide if I have to do anything with them.
KILL the Japanese beetles. They'll spread throughout the neighborhood, come back stronger each year, and they start out life as grubs which will eventually damage your lawn.
I let them go last year since they only seemed to be eating the beach roses which were hardy. This year we were abslutely infested -- stripped the roses of all their blossoms, and then they started branching out and eating our new bayberry bushes and other plantings near the roses. I got a bottle of stuff you hook the hose onto and spray -- kills on contact. Weeks later, only a few beetles.
Next year I'm starting early with grub treatment.
