PWGF will be my PWSUWMGF starting the week after Easter. I've told family, friends, and co-workers about the upcoming change in my life and the range of responses has been startling.
I've had big smiles and hugs, lectures, and "I'm happy for you but secretly think you're moving too fast" grins while being offered wishes for our future happiness.
Playing it safe, by some people's rules, means waiting...waiting for kids to grow up, waiting until we've been together for X amount of time, waiting for the Age of Aquarius...waiting. Bleh!
I spent just enough time in the dating pool to realize that finding someone was going to be hard. I met some nice women, some crazies, but nobody that made me feel like waking up in bed with them would be a good idea.
The thing is, PWGF loves me and I love her. We weren't looking to meet someone at that widow/widowers dinner and we certainly weren't looking to fall in love. But we did. It was unexpected, but incredible in terms of the depth and intensity of our love.
So, I can't think of anything safer than living with someone that feels that way about me. We're not naive and we understand how life works. There may be bumps and hard times but we know that we can love each other through them.
Playing it safe? Living life? You bet we are!
Posted by bbarton at March 28, 2007 02:50 AMYeah, when we started out there were a lot of people telling us we were going to fast and all that nonsense. When you know, you know. It's not their life and you don't have to live by their timetable. They'll catch up eventually. They did for us, it just took a while.
So, congratulations to you and PWSUWMGF!

Chosen - You hit the nail on the head! When you know, you know!
Posted by: Bob on March 28, 2007 08:06 AMAhh!! I wish you happiness.. As you have learned playing it safe and waiting.. not really the best options! Sometimes yes.. but not in this case I think.
Posted by: Denise on March 28, 2007 09:53 AMDenise - Thanks!
Posted by: Bob on March 28, 2007 10:11 AMOK, maybe I'm dense. SUWM?? What does it mean???
Posted by: Therese on March 28, 2007 10:34 AMTherese - Just a little side joke...Shacking Up With Me. :)
Posted by: Bob on March 28, 2007 10:44 AMI was feeling pretty dense too.. glad you cleared that one up! And I'm so happy for you both! You know, it's not like you're a couple of teenagers rushing into something..you're grown ups with good solid heads on your shoulders..and by jesus you can do what you wish!!
Good luck!! :)
Xianfern - Thanks!
Posted by: Bob on March 28, 2007 06:28 PMIt must be a guy thing because I knew what SUWM meant right away, but Pam had no clue until I told her. :)
Posted by: Chosen on March 29, 2007 09:08 AMChosen - That's funny!
Posted by: Bob on March 29, 2007 09:38 AMGo for it Bob. Am still a bit baffled by SUWM but actually, this minute I think I may have worked it out. I AM REALLY PLEASED FOR YOU. Both of you have been through it, so I don't doubt you know how to get it right. Some manoeuvering (can't spell it) round kids I daresay, but my experience is that as they grow up and get more and more into their own lives, seeing their dad happy and in company is a great load off their mind. As off the mind of all those who love you, blogwise, from afar and have hated to see your pain. xxx
Posted by: grannyp on March 29, 2007 11:26 AMGrannyP- Thanks for your perspective and for your love and support. Blogwise, or not, it means a lot. xx
Posted by: Bob on March 29, 2007 03:56 PMCongrats! Speaking from experience, long distance is ROUGH. Why waste the time, energy, and gas??? That time in the car can be MUCH better spent.
Posted by: the rambler on March 30, 2007 12:07 PMRambler - Yeah, it amounts to 7-8 hours in the car for a weekend visit.
