And whirred when it stood still or What is that noise?

I walked out to my car today and heard...something. I live a stone's throw away from a horse farm and they have chickens there too. I've also seen quail, turkeys and the occasional goose in the area so wondered if it might be one of them because it definitely sounded like a bird or birds was in some sort of distress.

I listened a little closer and realized the noise was coming from the neighbor's front yard. They have a lighted snow man that tips its hat on the end of a mechanical arm. It was the whir of that motor and the squeak of the arm that was making the ungodly noise.

I'm just glad that I can't hear it when I go up to bed or I think it would creep me out.
