I bought four bottles of the 2005 vintage Beaujolais Nouveau made by George Duboeuf yesterday and opened my first one last night.
I was a little bit disappointed in the flavor and I'm hoping I just had a so-so bottle and that the other ones will taste a better.
The Vintage Report indicates that it will taste much better than what I had so I'm looking forward to the next bottle that I open.
One of the things that put me off, a slight smell of vinegar, is actually one of the characteristics of a wine produced using carbonic maceration.
Stayed tuned for details on bottle number 2!

Posted by: Bob on November 19, 2005 05:31 PMi've read differing reviews on Duboef's beaujolais. he's been accused of creating a mass produced product that has sort of created this widely accepted view that beaujolais is not a serious wine only to be drank/drunk in Nov/Dec.
kinda like the bad rap that i think chianti use to have. anyway...i have always wanted to do a beaujolais tasting from smaller lesser known producers. maybe next year.
Heidi - We must have read the same review. I've purchased other beaujolais nouveau wines before and they've all been similar. I agree, it would be fun to try some non-nouveau wines and see how they compare.

What a coincidence, as I bought some Beaujoulais today too! But then again, it is the season, LOL! Mine was rather sharp and astringent...
