If I comment on someone's blog it is usually something short and to the point. I found that if I need two or more paragraphs to explain myself I ended up exiting and leaving nothing at all.
Sometimes, it will inspire me to leave a similar entry on my blog but I feel so copycat-like that I usually don't do that either.
The thing is, I don't mind getting lengthy comments. Why do I feel so awkward leaving one then?

I find that if I'm moved to write an essay in response to someone's blog entry, I will take it to email. I guess I just feel it is common courtesy as to not overpower the comment section.
As far as copy-cattin' goes, they do say that imitation is the best form of flattery. I agree that you should give credit where credit is due (note your inspiration in your own post) and that spring-boarding off someone else's ideas is a fine way to share your personal thoughts.
ms mac and lu are just being nice, Bob. The real reason you don't leave long comments is that you don't have anything to say.
LOL
Er... that was a joke (in case it's not obvious).
You usually write great comments, in my opinion. And anyway, brevity is the heart of something or other (something good; can't remember what).

Because if you have so much to say, you'd be as well writing your own post and referring to the original in your blog, It's a win-win situ!
Or because it's too much effort to write a long comment. That's usually my excuse! ;-)
