This wine was on the menu as a special at an Italian restaurant where we had dinner. It was $8.00 per glass or $30.00 for the bottle. What I thought was unusual was that they had a line under the listing that said the wine could be purchased at a wine shop across the street.
I went into the shop before driving back North and bought the 8 bottles they had left in stock for $13.59 each since I rounded up to a case with four Bordeauxs which got me a 20% discount.
When I tried this wine it reminded me a lot of a Zinfandel. Turns out that the grape, plavac mali, is a cross between the zin and another grape from that region in Croatia.
I had the wine with a chicken dish that had a fairly dark sauce and it paired fantastically. I find that zin wines are pretty good at being paired with a wide variety of foods.
